The 30-Minute Travel Protocol
The official NausX pre-travel routine that prevents motion sickness, drooling, and anxiety before they start.
The NausX 30-Minute Travel Protocol is the official pre-travel routine designed to help dogs settle into car rides without nausea, drooling, or anxiety. It works because it lines up the three things that matter most: physical calm, vestibular support, and a predictable cue.
It applies to car rides, vet visits, and long road trips alike.
The protocol — step by step
T-30 minutes — Give NausX
Administer NausX Dog Travel Support at the recommended dose for your dog's weight. Thirty minutes is the sweet spot — enough time to take effect without losing potency.
T-25 minutes — Light walk
Five minutes of slow walking burns nervous energy and gives your dog a chance to relieve themselves before loading.
T-20 minutes — Hydration check
Offer a small amount of water. Avoid a full bowl. Skip food entirely if it's been less than 2 hours since their last meal.
T-15 minutes — Travel cues
Bring out the harness, leash, or carrier. Keep your tone neutral. Predictable cues lower anticipatory anxiety. Read more in how to prevent travel anxiety.
T-10 minutes — Set up the car
Cool the cabin to 65–72°F. Crack the rear windows 1–2 inches. Lay down a stable mat or harness anchor in the rear footwell or back seat. Forward-facing position only.
T-5 minutes — Load calmly
Use a confident, low-energy voice. Avoid high-pitched reassurance — it can amplify anxiety. Buckle the harness and let your dog settle for two minutes before starting the engine.
T-0 — Drive smooth
Smooth acceleration, gentle braking, and predictable turns the first 10 minutes set the tone for the entire trip.
What to do during the ride
- Take a break every 60–90 minutes
- Offer small sips of water at each stop
- Watch for the early signs of motion sickness
- Keep the cabin cool and ventilated
After the ride
Allow 30 minutes of rest before feeding. Offer water freely. For longer trips or if any drooling occurred, follow the after-travel gut reset.
The protocol works because it removes guesswork. Same timing, same cues, same outcome — every trip.
The 30-Minute Travel Protocol is the foundation of the Travel Health System. Use it before every car ride, vet visit, and road trip.
